SOCCER

Varsity Head Coach - Dan Snyder

Mission Statement:

The Truckee High School boys soccer program will create and foster an environment that provides opportunities for student-athletes to enrich their high school experience. In addition to developing the skills to play soccer at a high level, our players will be taught the values associated with being a good citizen, a good student, and a good teammate. These values will assist our players with their college dreams and careers beyond their high school experience.

The Truckee High School boys soccer program has a rich history of success throughout its years. The Men Wolverines have won 8 Division 1-A Nevada State Championships, the most recent being in 2014.  The Men Wolverines have also won the Division 1-A Nevada League Championship 12 times with the most recent being in 2013.

SOCCER TRYOUTS 2018!!

This year soccer tryouts will be on August 13th, 14th, 15th from 7:00-10:00 am and 5:00-7:00 pm at Truckee High School Field.  Please make sure to be on the field ready to play at 7:00 am. These are mandatory tryouts and you must be at every session to be considered for either Varsity of JV. If you make any of the teams there will be regular training sessions the rest of the week, possibly double days as well. Everyone will be trying out for the Varsity squad regardless of age/grade.

On Tuesday morning of tryouts, we will run 2 miles around the track to see where everyone is with their fitness. (Bring your running shoes! This will be on the track.) This will not decide if you make the team or not.

To be eligible to try out and play you must be fully registered on registermyathlete.com, all Freshmen and Juniors will need an updated physical as well. Make sure you bring cleats, shinguards, running shoes and plenty of water to every session.

Grades
This is the most important part of being on the high school soccer team. You are a student first and an athlete second. You must maintain a minimum of a D average with no F’s, 2.0 GPA. Just like in soccer where we push you to succeed and get to a higher level, we want you to excel in the classroom. Do not settle for the minimum GPA push yourself for the maximum like you do on the field.

2018 Season
Following the week of tryouts, regular training sessions will start August 20. Sessions will be Monday - Wednesday 7:00 - 10:00 am and 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Thursday, August 24, pictures will be at 3:30 and practice 4:00-6:30 pm. During this first week we will have non-league games scheduled with some schools from Reno. Both the JV and the Varsity team will play in the South Tahoe High School Tournament in South Tahoe August 24 - 25 (Friday - Saturday). The league will start August 28 and run through October, and hopefully through the second week of November for the Varsity team. We will have the schedule on MaxPreps shortly.

Summer Pick-up Games
Every week we will have pick-up soccer games on TUESDAY and FRIDAY nights from 5 - 7 p.m. Boys and girls will be combined depending on numbers. It is a good idea to come to these as it helps keep your touch throughout the summer as well as you get used to playing with new teammates and coaches. Pick-ups will start June 20.

Fundraisers
To help us buy new equipment and gear as well as stay overnight on a trip we do a few fundraisers over the summer. We ask that all players volunteer to help with at least 1, preferably both, fundraising events.

Saturday, July 8: Adult Tournament
Players will be asked to help us run the event by being sideline refs, sell food, register teams, provide raffle prizes. There will be a morning shift and an afternoon shift.

Sunday, October 21: Sam Brixey Micro Six Tournament
Players are asked to play or volunteer in the tournament. It is $25 per player. We will also need parent volunteers to help keep score for the games. Please register your team at Sam Brixey.
